Spray foam removal prices in Tavistock
Removal is priced mainly by roof area. Checkatrade's national guide puts the average at about £40 per square metre, or around £3,200 for an 80m² roof. Using that rate, here's roughly what common home sizes in Tavistock would cost. We've highlighted a 3-bed detached as a useful comparison for Tavistock's stone-built houses and period and listed homes.
| Home | Roof area | At £40/m² |
|---|---|---|
| 2-bed terrace | about 50 m² | £2,000 |
| 3-bed semi | about 65 m² | £2,600 |
| 3-bed detached (our comparison for Tavistock) | about 80 m² | £3,200 |
| 4-bed detached | about 100 m² | £4,000 |
Your own price depends on the roof, so treat these as a starting point. Closed-cell foam, damaged timbers and re-insulation all add to the cost. Use the cost calculator to try your own roof size, then get a fixed price after a survey.
Tavistock homes and spray foam
Much of the removal work in Tavistock is in stone-built houses and period and listed homes. Here's what that means for the job.
Stone-built houses often have thick walls, irregular roof timbers and slate or stone roofs. Removing foam from uneven timbers takes longer than from modern regularised rafters, so expect the survey to look closely at the roof structure before a price is fixed.
Older and listed homes often have original timbers, lime mortar and slate or clay tiles that need gentle handling. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with the council before any roof work, and choose a firm that has removed foam from older roofs without damaging the structure.

Listed buildings, planning and scams in Tavistock
West Devon Borough Council handles planning, listed building consent and conservation areas in Tavistock. Many homes here are older or listed, so check with the council's planning team before any work to the roof. Removing foam inside a listed building can still need consent if it affects historic fabric.
If someone cold calls or knocks on your door in Tavistock offering to remove spray foam, be careful. The Property Care Association has warned about fake surveyors and false claims that homes are on a "national database". You can report a doorstep trader to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer helpline.
What happens when you book removal in Tavistock
- Survey. A firm visits your Tavistock home to check the foam type, the roof area, the access and the membrane, then fixes the price.
- Removal. Checkatrade says most removals take two to five days, with large or hard-to-reach roofs taking longer.
- Clean-down and inspection. The timbers are cleaned so a surveyor can see them, and any damage is recorded.
- Waste and paperwork. The foam goes to a licensed site, and you get a completion report with photos and a waste transfer note.
- Re-insulation. New insulation goes in if it's part of the job.
